Policy

MQA has developed Good Practice Guidelines: Micro-credentials (GGP:MC) and its implementation has been communicated to stakeholders through MQA Notice Letter No. 8/2020 dated 10 August 2020.

Based on this GGP:MC, a ‘Micro-credential’ is defined as a certification of knowledge, skills and competencies assessed in a specific field designed from an MQA-accredited program component or a stand-alone course that supports the professional, technical, academic and personal development of students /employee.

The main purpose of the GGP:MC document developed is to:

support flexible learning by providing reference resources on the implementation of Micro-credentials to stakeholders;
facilitate, guide and empower all types of Micro-credentials whether intended to complement, as a substitute, or component of academic programs offered by educational providers; and
explaining the best policy and method for implementing small breaks in program packages that have been accredited or stand-alone courses in the form of Micro-credentials as well as credit transfer policies for the purpose of obtaining the award of academic qualifications.
