Guidelines

The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) has developed the Guidelines for Good Practice: Micro-credentials (GGP:MC), and its implementation has been communicated to stakeholders

through MQA Circular Letter No. 8/2020 dated August 10, 2020.

According to these guidelines, ‘Micro-credential’ is defined as certification for knowledge, skills, and competencies assessed in specific fields, designed from components of programs accredited by MQA or stand-alone courses supporting the professional, technical, academic, and personal development of students/employees.

The primary objectives of the GGP:MC document are:

  • To promote flexible learning by offering reference materials on implementing micro-credentials to stakeholders.
  • To facilitate, guide, and support all types of micro-credentials, whether they complement, substitute, or form parts of academic programs offered by educational providers.
  • To clarify policies and best practices for implementing small packages of accredited program components or stand-alone courses as micro-credentials, and to outline credit transfer policies for obtaining academic qualifications.
